Gill LOL, in my experience the interval between crisis's increases with practice and experience. Everything can be running great for many years, and then perhaps from a combination of complacency luck and wear & tear, it goes to hell in a hand basket. I get bit every few years. The front of my 120g opened dropping 50g before the silicone pulled it back in. That was fun *not*. I guess if it was too easy, it wouldn't be as much fun? ;~) Very true. We would move on to something else more challenging in a flash. Sometimes we like to push things to the very edge, even over, and then pull just slightly back and admire our achievements. They wouldn't be achievements if there were not risks attached. Nikki I just want everything in my life to be stable. However, as Netmax said, sometimes everything seems to break loose. Netmax's 50gal leak is a scarry scenario. I tremble just trying to guess how I would handle it and the consequences! I think Nikki's "challenges" are best left for the young. dick |

I'm just an observer really. Just speaking in metaphors. The only risk I'd tolerate is a financial one. I hope there weren't any fish in that 120g though, or they were all strong swimmers! Nikki |

Nikki The only loss was the upper heater which cracked its glass tube (lower heater kept everything warm enough until I noticed *cough* the loss of water). Dick, youth is a state of mind, not numbers (and I'm in no hurry to grow up ;~). However the desire for a stable or unchallenging aquarium has more to do with personality and lifestyle. There have been many times when work had enough challenges, and what I needed from my aquariums was peaceful tranquility. -- www.NetMax.tk |

There have been many times when work had enough challenges, and what I needed from my aquariums was peaceful tranquility. -- www.NetMax.tk I think events such as described by NetMax would actually panic anyone however old or young....I remember in my pre-fish keeping days someone at work getting a call from the person from the flat below complaining water was dripping through his ceiling - he dropped everything and drove home (faster than he should i'm sure) to discover his 50g tank in pieces....doesn't bear thinking about....Also there are people out there who live in earthquake areas (I think someone mentioned this recently on a post) who must live with this possibility everyday but life continues and goes on....and then Hurricaines....need I continue... I think one of the reasons I described this as going from one problem to another is that I do not have the experience yet. Today's problem is a problem until I work it through often with the help/support of this newsgroup (thanks) - so next time it will not stress me - I will just deal with it from what I have learnt before. In addition to this just like NetMax said "There have been many times when work had enough challenges, and what I needed from my aquariums was peaceful tranquility." After a lot of deliberation (and a shift in lifestyle values), I have now stopped working full-time (well altogether for the moment). Work and the journey to and from work can be far more stressful than the crises in the fish tanks (45 mins each way on a good day on one of the worst stretches of Motorway for accidents in the country - max was over 3 hours just one way with a four year-old child in the back of the car). Now I've found my freedom I am looking forward to new challenges both with my fish and family - Hubby is looking concerned about my tank plans but I've found a place I can squeeze a new one in - he, he Gill |
