The DVD has a whole segment on the fish in the movie btw.

I too have seen this too many times.

I sure hope there is no Tang Police around hearing that folks want to
put a tang in a 55 ;-) Heck on some forums just the mere thought of
putting one in a 75 gal will bring on a wrath of flames much worse
than one would get in hell.

Owning this fish I can tell your from my first hand experience that
55 gallon tank is way too small for this big, strong and very agile fish.
It is swimming in my 58 gallon, 3-feet long reef tank and this is very
sad look: it resembles a dog living its whole life in a space of the
size of office building an elevator...
But beginners are stupid and I was not any exception from this rule
so I got it from the store when it was 2" fish, now it is about 8" and
I am sorry for him but there is no room for a bigger tank...
It really takes him a blink of an eye to jump across this small tank.

Yu can always get a good but somewhat
repetitiouis conversation going with a title like "Will my Blue Tang
have enough room in my 29 gal if I add a yellow tang too? and continue
on with I only have two fish total and the other is a NIger Trigger.
When it was a freshwater setup it had 18 fish in it without a problem.

These fish were probably not 8" long each and they were not such
fast moving fish as the reef guys are, used to beating of the waves.
It is really hard to compare a feshwater angel fish, sitting half day
in one place to a speedy hippo tang moving whole day like crazy...

From my research and kid resistant technique....they get quite big and
need a good size tank - I've seen them as Blue or Regal tangs and are
fantastic fish....my kids get a big no,no for dorie in my 15gall
nano....might consider them in a 55 gall (US) but would still question
that I am giving them enough space....

No, there will not be enough room there.

my kids have settled for owning nemo...1 & 2
- could get no more imaginitive names from them....hubby
calls the Mr and Mrs....which I guess is going to be more accurate....

Clownfish are fine.

Doh! You're right.

Now I wonder where Monroe came from. My daughter always has a reason,
but it can often elude me.

Hey Pepto Pszemol, you're missing the point. This was a question about the
type of fish. Now people are just enjoying talking about their kids, the
movie and the fun with the fish at home.

I had my eye on Atlantic Tangs, but I'm resisting the urge to buy more

Keep resisting. I have a 125 gallon tank and, until recently, had an adult
powder blue. He/she apparently felt a bit too constrained in such a small tank
and would attack and frequently kill any new fish of any type (except lionfish).

Forgive your enemies. But always remember who they are.

What kind of fish was Dorie in the movie Nemo? A Natural Blue Tang? I
haven't found anything that looks like her.

Okay, I know what your thinking, but I'm posting this on behalf of my kids
that keep pelting me with this question.

Right on topic and good information sir.

I have a 75 gallon tank and this is precisely the reason why
I didn't buy one. Ever see a 12" long "Dorie" in a 48" long tank ?

I am seeing 8" long Dorie in a 36" tank every day...
Same sad proportions, unfortunatelly :-(
