High Nitrates salt

Slowly means that if your system is dependent on the bacteria in the bioballs, if there is not enough live rock to handle things, then you can end up with a spike in ammonia and/or nitrite. I did ask about adding more sand and they said that was an old remedy. But it can release bubbles of nitrogen into the water. I didn't specify calcium sand though. I'll ask the LFS next time I go~ which hopefully won't be soon. Every time I go in that place I spend at least $70. Deep sand bed is not an old remedy. You can use silica sand, but calcium sand is better. Bubbles of nitrogen is what you want. Your LFS does not know as much as they claim. Yeah, I'm sure that is true but they do have the experience of running their store and keeping their stuff healthy. Besides they have better prices than most other stores around here. Also, I'm sure none of us know everything. I just take it all in and try to do what I think is the best value. Personally, I wouldn't own three aquariums and a gf pond but it keeps my wife happy. Seems we all agree that the BB gotta go. :-) Wayne Sallee |

Yeah but it's free shipping after $175. I guess I don't get it. I got my Remora Aqua C from them. Good company. Didn't charge for shipping and when a part was broken during shipping they quickly rushed me a replacement. |

I would suggest you try them: add this salt x 3 to your online shopping cart and see how much you pay :-) Then compare the same on the pestmart site - you will get it. |

The owner of the store said that the canister in actually the main problem (gee, you think they would of said so when I bought it). It depends on what you have in the can. I keep one running on my 125, but I only use one of the three compartments. I keep filter floss in that to remove algae from the water when I scrape it off the glass or rock. If your live rock is doing all of the work of handling the nitrogen cycle, things will stabilize. If your filter is doing some of the work, you will get some variation in nitrites or nitrates every time you clean the filter. "Properly" set up wet-dry and, to a lesser extent, cannister filters are considered to be "nitrate factories." Yep, the nitrogen is harmless. In fact the air that
we breath is 78% nitrogen. Wayne Sallee George Patterson wrote on 10/24/2007 10:25 PM: jthread wrote: I did ask about adding more sand and they said that was an old remedy.
