Searched by name in Amazon, Remo Rosati and found the book. And Anne's review! The site doesn't say much about what the book is about but this snippet gives a clue Customers interested in *Divine Intervention* may also be interested in: Sponsored Links * Intervention Specialists A national organization of professional interventionists www.addictionintervention.com I guess we Porgs qualify? But do we want to be cured? What kind of people would do an intervention with a ponder? Grass lovers? Frog phobics? People who think the only good fish is the deep fried kind? Here is the Porg explanation for new folks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PORG - A term used on rec.ponds from time to time. If you are a Star Trek fan, the Next Generation specifically, you might remember the evil Borg. Half living creatures, half robots, flying around the universe assimilating new species into their collective. Their favorite line, delivered in cold robotic voices, is 'resistance is futile, you will be assimilated". We rec.ponders feel the same way about ponding. Watch out you are about to be assimilated into the Porg collective! We will be here to help with the details. Heather wrote what is a troll?????
A troll, or his close cousin, the spammer, can be one of many things ~ a) a socially maladjusted young male who sees posting stuff and nonsense and inflammatory comments on newsgroups as a satisfactory substitute for his lack of beer, accommodating girls and skittles in his life. b-a) a rabid free enterpriser who buys into the theory that 100,000,000,000 posts about his product or service will result in one person purchasing his wares. (PS - half your post viewers don't own anything that can be lengthened...) b-b) the same rabid free enterpriser who thinks we can be fooled into checking out his merchandise by pretending to be an actual poster (gardening - test post). We've been there, done that. This troll needs an intervention by irritated newsgroupers to stop. Rec.ponders can hold him underwater with a hungry snapping turtle. c) the absolute bottom dwellers, lower than leeches, bloodworms and anaerobic bacteria - the pornographer spammer who thinks we really need to view naked people and what they do with various and sundry farm animals. We get enough of that with frogs breeding and koi spawning. k30a and the watergardening labradors http://www.geocities.com/watergarden...ors/index.html |

Here is the Porg explanation for new folks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PORG - snipped extremely long explanation by K30s ;o) Cybe R. Wizard replied: Someone, I forget who, added, "...you will be pond elated." I like that, it's in keeping with the original BORG phrase, it's punny (which has special meaning for me), and I hereby nominate it as a regular inclusion. Tis I (Ye Ole Queen) the *someone* of whom you speak: The Borg said: "We are _Borg_ resistant is futile, you will be assimilated." The Porg say: "We are Porg, resistant IS futile, you will be pond-elated." P - Pond, O - Oriented, R - Recreational, G - Group Hmmmm, and looking at this again, I guess one could say a ponder is always POed. :o) I figure if they aren't aware of Star Trek & the Borg they aren't reading this newsgroup either. ;o) ~ jan See my ponds and filter design: http://users.owt.com/jjspond/ ~Keep 'em Wet!~ Tri-Cities WA Zone 7a To e-mail see website |
Unless you take care to remove the extraneous groups, any "group reply" will
go to all the groups that received the post to which you are replying. You can tell by looking closely at the To: list for each message. These things can really deteriorate fast because suddenly posters of a particular group are seeing posts from strangers, etc., and so on. To confuse this issue even more, we've suddenly picked up another "anne" (gasp!) here in rec.ponds! What's the big complaint about top posting, anyway? I think it really depends upon your newsreader as to whether
Nedra I saw it but I don't see how some random quotes from some source or the other, mine or his/hers, make any difference to the main discussion. It just seems natural to me to have written discussions follow a logical, consistent, in-order order, if you will. Proper snippage, as I have done, helps a lot, too, and the logical time progression of the thread, however snipped or not, is preserved. However, as I've said, I don't care how they are posted and there are no hard and fast rules. Some I read and some I don't, top, bottom, or middle posted. I frequent one group non-disclosable wherein the convention is to top post exclusively, snipping everything else except the particular text to which you are replying, but leaving it below your response. I tell you, it's hard to follow sometimes. In the pun group (alt.humor.puns) and the limerick groups (alt.arts.limericks and alt,jokes.limericks) the convention is to bottom post but snip nothing that has gone before, although posts are snipped and a new subject line substituted accordingly whenever a thread forks sufficiently.. Once again, though, continuity is established and preserved in a logical time progression, regardless of the time of propagation on any particular news server or anybody's idea of rules. I prefer well snipped bottom posting. I read it all or not depending upon mood and whether I am expecting responses to particular posts of mine. Other than that I really don't care except it sure is easier when there is at least agreement among the participants in any particular group. Cybe R. Wizard -- Unofficial "Wizard of Odds," A.H.P.
