Blue Koi
Still working on a picture. He/She is still small, about 5 inchs, but the
blue is still the same. I bought it as an import, I beleive belgian (sp?) or some b name close to that for only $7.95. It also has some shiny scales on its head. I bought another one with it, and it has the same shiny scales, but is an orange/yellow color. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them. Bob "BenignVanilla" wrote in message ... OK. I have not stopped thinking about the post about a blue koi. Yesterday, I was tossing some dog food into the pond as an experiment, and one of my more dominant fish came up to gulp some down. When I bought him/her, he/she was a pale yellow. Now he/she is an oppalecnt golden yellow. AMAZING COLOR!!! I want a blue one!!! What variety are they? Are they expensive? -- BenignVanilla Pond Site: www.darofamily.com/jeff/links/mypond |

I have seen koi that people had said are blue, when they're really just a
light gray. It wasn't till I saw one at a koi convention did I see a true blue (pardon the pun) koi. It was an asagi simlar to this: http://www.koi.com/encyclo/asagi.html but without the netting and the blue was true sky blue, the fish was a scaleless (leather skin) variety of asagi... and no, I didn't bother to ask the price, the old if you gotta ask.... ~ jan See my ponds and filter design: http://users.owt.com/jjspond/ ~Keep 'em Wet!~ Tri-Cities WA Zone 7a To e-mail see website |

He was only $18 at 2" with a nice color. He's now ~6" and the blue upper section is sky blue or maybe cornflower blue (in the Crayola color scale). I did a quick images.google.com search for a good pic of one to link to, but didn't really see one. They all had much less blue coloring than this little guy has. Maybe the blue is hard to photograph or tends to fade with time? garyr |

i've about decided that blue is a name given to these blue-gray fish in the
same way that red is given to hereford cattle. if you wanted to be really technical, herefords are a nice rusty-brown color, not red. but they are still called red cattle. so these are blue koi. jmho... i wish there were goldfish that were the color of some of the bright blue tropical fish. wouldn't those be a trip? think of them next to bright orange goldfish! mad -- "Let me tell you the one thing I have against Moses.
