Blue Koi

Still working on a picture. He/She is still small, about 5 inchs, but the
blue is still the same. I bought it as an import, I beleive belgian (sp?)
or some b name close to that for only $7.95. It also has some shiny scales
on its head. I bought another one with it, and it has the same shiny
scales, but is an orange/yellow color. I'll post pictures as soon as I get
them.

OK. I have not stopped thinking about the post about a blue koi.

Yesterday,
I was tossing some dog food into the pond as an experiment, and one of my
more dominant fish came up to gulp some down. When I bought him/her,

he/she
was a pale yellow. Now he/she is an oppalecnt golden yellow. AMAZING
COLOR!!!

I want a blue one!!! What variety are they? Are they expensive?

THAT is definitely within the realm of budget.

Can anyone recommend a good e-place for Koi in this price range?

I have seen koi that people had said are blue, when they're really just a
light gray. It wasn't till I saw one at a koi convention did I see a true
blue (pardon the pun) koi. It was an asagi simlar to this:
http://www.koi.com/encyclo/asagi.html
but without the netting and the blue was true sky blue, the fish was a
scaleless (leather skin) variety of asagi... and no, I didn't bother to ask
the price, the old if you gotta ask.... ~ jan

I picked up a nice little shusui (scaleless asagi) this spring at the
Young Koi Show in SoCal. He was only $18 at 2" with a nice color. He's
now ~6" and the blue upper section is sky blue or maybe cornflower blue
(in the Crayola color scale).

I did a quick images.google.com search for a good pic of one to link to,
but didn't really see one. They all had much less blue coloring than
this little guy has. Maybe the blue is hard to photograph or tends to
fade with time?

It was in April at the Fullerton Arboetum
Along with a big plant sale. Ah, here's the link to the Nishiki Koi

I assume there will be one next spring there as well.

These sites have a couple of good shusui photographs; many pictures
looked washed out and I think that's why the pale blue doesn't show so
well. I also ran across a site that mentioned qualities for judging a
shusui koi (sorry, can't find it again now) and it said that the red

and
dark blue should be separated by "pure white," which I think is the

baby
blue in the younger koi.

We have a small hi shusui: it has more red on its head and back, but

has
the pale blue around the dorsal fin and the dark blue scales. He's

"Baby
Blue" as that is the color we could see first when he was a 1/2 inch

fry.

Claude, now that's blue! Beautiful. How old is this one? it looks like a
yearling (less than one year). In the bluekoi1.jpg picture it looks like
there's a few light red splotches on its side. Could be a very nice

We run a reality pond show around here. Take a bunch of land snails, toss them
on the lily pads and then sit back. Will the snails make it from lily pad to
lily pad and back to land or will they make the fatal mistake of looking out
over the water while

still called red cattle. so these are blue koi. jmho...

Hmm...well, to be honest, i have never done a search to see what a
shubunkin looks like. I thought about getting one because i like
saying "shubunkin" and could talk about my shubunkin! :)

When i get the bigger new pond built, i will check them out. I love my

I have no idea what they are called Jerri. I suspect they are from the
shubunkin, and goldfish and they are definately yellow. I'm redoing my website
currently (we tore up the yard and relandscaped it) and will try to get a good
photo of Busi (my daughter named her) who is yellow with orange eyes and fins.
There is one picture of her on my page on fish.

I have several, maybe we could trade :)
