Florida Yellow Cucumber

I purchased a yellow sea cucumber yesterday. I hoped it would dig
itself into the deep sand, but it did not. It crawled on the
macroalgae instead. Is that normal for them? I was told in the LFS that
they come from Florida. They have that crown of small,
sand-sifting suckers, but mine does not like to dig sand.
What is wrong with this picture? :-))

new aclimation.. It will likely settle down into the sand in a day or three..
You do have fine sand, right?

Yes, I do have. DSB build with Home Depot tropical play sand.
It is very fine calcium based sand. I ahve placed cucumber
on sand, but for some reason it climbed up and today it sits
on my back glass...

Yeah, I see this often with new arivals.. I wouldnt worry. If after a week
and its still on the glass I would check some water perameters

Thanks for the info. I got it from your store Saturday...
Did you get these guys recently? It was on the glass in your tank as well.

And what water parameters would be important for these guys
to stay burrowed in the sand bed? I put it in the tank where
there is almost no animals - almost macroalgae-only tank,
with lots of snails, one crab and lots of sand bed creatures...
So there is no nitrates and calcium level is pretty high.

p.s. we could not find any mini-stars in the tanks this day
I got one pound (a cup) of live sand instead but after I inspected
it home in a very flat dish and a 10x magnifier glass there was not
much life in it: 2 tiny worms, 2 tiny snails and no stars unfortunatelly :-(

yes, just last week.. Most of ours are now down in the sand bed

They dont "burrow" in the sand.. they scoot along the top, mopping sand as they
go..

A/N/N would be the only things that I would be concerned with when if cukes
climb th e walls and never drop back to the sand.

This really supprises me.. just yesterday I piced up a cuke off of the sand for
a customer, and there were 3 mini brittle stars stuck to the cuke. one fell off
but 2 made it into th ebag as freebies along with the cuke.

I will check on mine today - maybe it finally behaves well, as cuke should be :-)

Right... my mistake.

These are near zero in that tank. So the cuke should be fine.

I guess I was very unlucky :-) Some day you could collect 10-15 these white,
tiny stars and I will get there the same day to pick them up from you...
Lets agree on some day we both will have some time to do it, it is a long drive.
I would like to get one larger Lysmata amboinensis and a couple of Sea Lettuce
Slugs (Elysia crispata) as well. Let me know when you have them in the store.
Thanks!

The cucumber will not necessarily be visible during the day. It may be
nocturnal. I have a Mexican cucumber and he moves around at night. He hides
in a dark place during the day.

Mine is still sitting on top of the back wall, sticking to the glass.
