Put food coloring in tank?

I guess this is a very bad idea, but I thought I might as well ask here. I
have NOT done it, and probably never will. Anybody ever try to tint the
water blue-green a bit?

based on the fact that humans consume loads of it, and I believe it is made
of food grade stuff, I think it would be okay to add it..try a drop -- a
small drop per gallon or two....I think it would be exactly like any DOC.

maybe you can call the food coloring company and ask...

I can see no harm in this besides maybe to those who view this tank ;)

Nope, not I, said the duck.

About a year (plus) ago, somebody posted about their dad adding
medications to the fish tank (mal green) just before parties though...

I have been in the hobby for about half a year now so i am by no means
an expert but my gut feeling is, don't try it.

I've been doing this for a long time, and intellectually can't see any harm
in it, but I agree with you. Anything I don't need in my tank, and or can't
prove beyond a doubt is safe, I leave in the open air. The health of my fish
isn't worth a party stunt.

Since most of the "medicines" are coloured with dye, its obvious that there
are some dyes that don't upset the fish.

Jim (not that Jim)

Actually, some of the medicines ARE the dyes. Heavy metals (and I don't
mean Van Halen...) in the dyes can be used to treat fish, but are not
legal for treating fish for human consumption.

Point of interest...
There actually was a heavy metal "cure" for syphilis for decades before
antibotics came on the scene.
