Anemones die
I am having an issue with anemones, they persist for a month then start
shrinking and eventually die. If all parameters are good and there doesn't seem to be an issue in eating what I supply, why they die? Could light be a problem. This is a 65 tank with a 20 gal mini-tank/sump configured in series with a FWLR arrangement. I have a Coral Sun actinic 420 and a Aqua-Glo 30w. What will most likely be the cause for my lack of success? iy |

I have power compact lighting with (4) 65watt lights.
I've killed 3 nice looking bubble tip anemones. I'm done with my killing spree ! You had Compact Florescent (PC) ? I did, and they were OK. I switched to a halide/actinic setup, which had the light, but the heat produced was enough to require a chiller. The T5 puts out almost as much light, but is as cool as the PC. Mike |

You need alot more light. Depending on the sp. of anemone, you will
should only be attempting the Bubble-Tip Sp. as they are the most adaptable to aquaria. I would suggest nothing less than PC Powercompact bulbs, of 65 watts, atleast 4 bulbs for 65g tank. You didnt specify water flow, which is another huge part of there envirnonment. You need ATLEAST a flowrate equal to 10x the tank size. So for 65g tank, you would need 650 gallon per hour circulation. I would say most anemones need 15x-20x flowrate, with addition of power heads within the tank. Please only purchase bubble-tips because this variety is not in any risk of endangerment, as many sp. of anemones are! All those parameters are fine. I am pretty sure it was the light.

But they can be hard critters to get past the initial introduction. Many aren't in the best of health at the LFS.
