Here's what I've done that works real good:
At to top of the screen click on Tools, options, display, tags, add, clean list, click on the box to the right, and tag it black, ok, add, trash list, click on the box to the right, and tag it pale green, ok, ok. While viewing rec.aquaria.marine.reefs, click on Tools, Message Filters, Make sure it says, filters for rec.aquaria.marine.reefs. Click new, create filter name "clean list", match any of the following, from, contains. Add a regular user, then click "+", and do it again with the other regular users. Then perform these actions, Tag message, Clean list, ok. Click new, create filter name "trash list", match all of the following, perform these actions, tag message, trash list, ok, then close window. And I also created a troll list. Wayne Sallee Big Habeeb (a.k.a. This new tagging setup on Thunderbird is working
very well. Here is a little bit more info on the tagging setup. In order to control tagging color priorities, go to tools, options, advanced, config editor, type in "tags", and you will see that it uses $label as it's default naming, and then gives it a value, and if you create a label, it uses that name, and gives it the same value, and if you rename it, it has the original name and gives it the new value. It puts the tags in color priority by using the alphabetical order of the original names. So what I did was to go to tools, options, display, new, and created the following tags: $label6 $label7 $label8 $label9 $label91 $label92 $label93 $label94 $label95 $label96 $label97 $label98 $label99 Only I just now realized that I goofed up and spelled it "$lable". :-) But it still worked. Then click ok to close out the settings window. Then go back to tools, options, display, and edit the first one ($label6), and rename it to the tag that you want to take color priority. I named it "Troll List", then I renamed the second one, "Clean List", and then renamed the 3rd one "Trash List. That way the color priority is in that order. Then for the filters, I run them in the same order, Troll List, Clean List, Trash List, so that they tag in that order as well. Pszemol wrote: You are watching too many Apple commercials on TV and your opinion about pc/windows is skewed and distorted ;-) I don't watch TV. Oh, I should admit that windows has gotten much better. I still think the user interface stinks, but the quality and security has improved dramatically. It still boggles the mind why something as simple as a firewall was so difficult for MS to add into their systems and would have saved businesses world-wide billions of dollars. I think my impressions were formed a few years ago where I'd be working happily on my Linux laptop while the latest MS security gaff was being exploited by internet worms. I also refused to support the platform because I didn't enjoy being woken up at 2 in the morning to figure out why a Windows server is circling the drain again. Just self-preservation and self-interest at work, so I suppose that is distorted as their are other ways to view the utility of the platform. Although I commend MS for fixing their issues, I still don't trust the machines. If it has windows and is attached to the internet, I assume the machine is dirty. MS software hasn't been scrutinized by the world of developers, so I just have to assume that their are more security gaffs waiting to be exploited. Perhaps I'm overly cautious, but then again, judging by past performance, maybe not. As for the User interface, I feel like I'm riding around on a squeaky tricycle with my knees up around my ears. I've only recently (last night) started using Vista, so the jury is out on that one. Nice eye candy, but I'm more concerned about productivity and performance. I've never owned an Apple as I'm always turned away by sticker shock and that they reorganized the unix file system. I can't make any comments on them other then they have some nice eye candy on their UI. Not sure how useful it is, but some of my friends seem to enjoy it. Sorry, for posting off topic. I'll let it die. --Kurt |

Here's how to get it working:
Tools - Account Settings - Server Settings Always request authentication when connecting to this server Next line down, click on browse. Right click on news.server address and open with notepad. At the bottom of the file ad 3 lines of gobly-goop, and save and close the file This will then cause Thunderbird to ask for a correct screen name and password to replace the gobly-goop.
