Cooling fan problem - renault

I have a 93 Renault with a cooling fan that doesn't come on even after
the temp gauge lamp does. The fan runs fine if i hook it directly to
the battery, so the motor's good. I've replaced the thermoswitch on the
radiator and this didn't solve the problem. and i can't find any
obvious problems with connections or wiring. there are no noticeable
leaks in the system. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

Does that thermal switch activate the fan directly, or does it feed the ECM
or activate a fan relay?
Have you checked all fuses (and fusible links, if applicable)?
