74 Super Convertible turn signal/flasher relay

Can anybody help? I have a five pin relay that appears to be bad (shake

& sounds like a broken light bulb), signals don't work, flashers don't
work. Checked bulbs - OK.

THe part I took off the back of the fuse box in slot #3 per the owner's

manual is a 5 pin relay HELLA 002684-03 or VW 111 955 531.

All the parts places have is a 3 pin connector type relay for this
model.

THoughts?
Thanks!

The part you took out is an optional wiper/delay/intermittent timer.

Your flasher should be a 3-term with P/N something like:
191 953 227A

To save some grief, find the Wh wire that goes to Term #49
on the flasher relay. With relay in the socket, Ign sw On,
and turn signals On, see if there is 12V on the Wh wire.

If NOT then there is a fuse problem or else the 4-Way Hazard
switch is not making contact. Flip it a couple times to see
if that cures it.

If there IS 12V on the Wh wire, there is a good chance the
flasher is bad.

You can find a simplified diagram of the flasher ckt on my web site.

Sounds good. Ordered a relay (3 pin.) THe one I have has a rattle
just like a broken light bulb. Didn't get a chance to check the wires.
Should be an 8AMP fuse. That's what I found there when checking.

you can open the flasher relay and fix
it easily.

usually it is a burnt magnetic wire
in the coil.

Replaced with a three prong relay and same result. Dash turn signal
lights, no bulbs though. Emergency flasher doesn't work. Tried to
flip/play with it. Looks like it's an after market swith, not what I
see on web sites. I guess that's next. Electrical is fun :).
