Plecostomus. It is a tropical catfish that some people put in the ponds to
eat algae off the side of the pond.

what is a pleco?

Do you have a pleco, by any chance? Plecos will, according to Doc

Johnson,
suck the eyes out of koi. Once they start and find out how good they

are,
they will go for the eyes of every fish they can catch. Get them out of

the
pond.

As for the little ones, some will survive, some will be eaten by other

fish.
If they all survived, they would not be able to turn around in the pond

when
they grew up. Be thankful that they don't all make it. You very well

may
be trying to find homes for them next year, or you will have problems

with
water quality.

everything.

I've had a one eye comet for over 10yrs, his was damaged in the net during
the winter one yr. As long as they are eating and look healthy otherwise, I
wouldn't worry about it.

Fish that disappear many times are taken by a heron, a kingfisher or a snake.
They don't leave much evidence like a raccoon would.
