Pump in or Pump out?
We live in Michigan (zone 5). Someone said to leave our pump in over the
winter so that the seals don't dry out. Is it okay to leave the pump in the bottom of the pond (not running) for the winter, or shall we pull it and put in dry storage? Thanks, Cathy |

Cathy, just leave the pump in the bottom of your pond.
Not running of course. Nedra http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pines/4836 http://community.webshots.com/user/nedra118 "Szpond" wrote in message ... We live in Michigan (zone 5). I leave my pump in the pond over winter -have for 10 yrs now - will be fine
as long as it is deep enough so as not to freeze - I am in SW Ont (zone 7 I thought?) - 35 mi from Detroit Gale :~) "Szpond" wrote in message ... We live in Michigan (zone 5). It must not matter with the Becketts then, Jan. I leave all three
of mine in the pond. I've been doing this for several years & all are running fine. Only one is turned on right now... it's feeding the veggie filter. Nedra "~ jan JJsPond.us" wrote in message ... Thanks, Cathy It might depend on the pump, but I've pulled my Beckett's every year, dry store where the won't freeze without problems. The Ebara we use at the Demo Pond needs a manual turn of it's impeller in the spring, but runs fine there after. I use a Little Giant for water changes and pumping out my filter, so it goes from wet/dry conditions constantly, still running fine since 1995. ~ jan See my ponds thru the seasons and/or my filter design: http://users.owt.com/jjspond/ ~Keep 'em Defrosted~ Tri-Cities, WA Zone 7a To e-mail see website |

I take mine out, service and clean it, then store it in a 5 gallon bucket full of water in the basement. I replace it in the pond with a PondMaster pump of lower output, to keep a small amount of water going through the VF,the streams and smaller settling ponds, and keep an open area in the main pond in case of a freeze.
