What Protein Skimmer would you recomend?

Looking for a protein skimmer for a 55 gal hexagon, prefer the type I
can hang on the tank but may concider others as I will most likley
move to a larger tank (100-150gal) next year or two.

Any e-tailers you would recomend?

Get a seaclone. It does the job http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/ebaeseller/
People badmouth them, but that do what they are made to do, skim!

People are pushing those 200+ EuroReef ones, but they all are skimmers. Even
the books say any protein skimmer will do fine.

This country is full of bandwagoner's. I supposed you are against generic
drugs too? The thing skims protein. It works, and without adjustments. The
basic principal behind skimming is the same. TFH books says a basic skimmer
will do, that buying a bandwagoner skimmer is not necessary.

The concept of protein skimming is all the same, yes, but not all skimmers
work the same. Simply put, the better you mix the smallest air bubbles with
sea water and the longer you can maintain that contact, the better your
skimming. And with that, some skimmers will have a better mix of air and
water with smaller air bubbles than others. When you consider that, not all
skimmers are made the same. If your system is heavy on the bioload (as most
aquariums are) or your requirements are more extreme than others
(experienced reef organisims or heavy polluters) you would do best to
perhaps spend a little more to get that better skimmer. Keep in mind
however that not all expensive skimmers are better.

I'm hardly a "bandwagoner" I'm strickly speaking from experiance...I've been
into Marine Aquariums for over 20 years and have tried many skimmers!! My
best is homemade, its 6 ft tall and runs 2 venturie powerheads and an air
pump at 1400 gph. It works very well on my 125. I was simply offering an
opinion that I believe is valid, as the best use that I've found for MY
seaclone is as a gravel ceaner!....

All you are doing is proving you are another idiot. The product skims, it's
made by a multi million dollar corporation. There are photos of people with
full cups of crap. It's a skimmer not a gravel "ceaner".

You can buy three Seaclones for the price of one of those other ones that
are probably made in someone's garage.

let me jump on the bandwagon and give my input on this.

I have a seaclone that was highly modded to make it a very good skimmer.
its size limits it to a tank of 55g or less total system volume.

I have a "BandWagon" Euro-Reef CS12-2 and the amount of skimmet that it
pulls out of a tank it would take 200 seaclones to match it. I don't think
you could get 200 of them for the price I paid for the ER nor would it fit
in the same space.

Wow, what interesting coments on this post, I looked at the Euro and
got shocked by the price. maybe I should look for a skimmer that will
be good for the tank I have now and I did fail to mention that I have
a Buget. What would be a good skimmer unber the $250 range. I hope
that you aquarist dont get into such arguements over this

Apart from the minute amount of skimate a seaclone produces, nobody
has mentioned the deafening noise it makes. Irrespective of the price,
it will not do the job required. A different make will only be
consuming a similar amount of electricity, depending on the pump
wattage, but give a far better result.
