Good plant to put near edge of pond ?

I have an area around my skimmer where I am thinking of putting in a
perennial of some type. I live in Minnesota Zone 4. What plants like to grow
into a pond? I was thinking of a water melon vine I know it is an annual but
I have seen watermelons floating in a spring.

I plant watermelon with success before. From my experience and what I
read, watermelon don't like water log place, and I don't think
watermelon will survive under floating condition.

I have a small area that my pond overflows into, and the roots from the turf
grass in that area were constantly wicking water out of the pond. I had a
small natural bog. I recently tore the grass out, and planting some creeping
jenny. The foliage is made up of small, round leaves on long vine like
stems. The plants lover the moisture and so they should spread readily
through this are. In just a week or two, the plants are alreay quite large
compated to when I bought them.

This may work for you.

Thanks, Wong. I went ahead and planted watermelons and cantalopes in
dirt today:) I have sunflowers coming up, too. My tomatoes don't look
so good, though. Pond related: Something is eating the heck out of my
creeping (LEAPING) primrose. (It bloomed for the first time today)
