I have a tropical tank but would like to set up a marine FISH ONLY tank 2
clown fish and 2 blue hardy things (forgot there name) What would be the
minimum amount of equipment I would need and the smallest size tank (Limited
Space). Just an idea for the moment

Welcome to the obsession. First and formost, remember the cardinal
rule..

1: Start out slow and taper off from there.

In an FO tank, you could get away with normal flourescent lighting
and a basic powerfilter of proper size. If you have 2 clown fish, be
sure they are a mated pair, or territory disputes may ensue,
resulting in unhappy, and perhaps injured or dead fish. The "blue
hardy things" are likely damsel fish, which are prone to aggressive
behavior, YMMV. In my limited experience, I'd recommend a tank no
smaller than 40 gallons, perhaps larger. In fishkeeping, the best
idea is to get the largest tank you have room for and can afford,
this makes many things easier to cope with. Please post again if you

Thanks with fish only is there a need for a protein skimmer or can you get
away with ordinary Bio/mach filtration also what size is a 40 gallon. I
have a 36 x 18 x 14 inch spare could I use that.

FO tanks do not require a skimmer, in most cases, but it won't hurt.
A normal Hang-on-Tank powerfilter would be fine for this, but nitrate
levels will need to be monitored carefully, as marine fish are more
sensetive. Make sure you read that first link....that's where I got
most of the knowledge I now have.

FO tanks do not require a skimmer, in most cases, but it won't hurt.
