Cold water Pacific macroalgae in a tropical tank?

Anybody with an experience with keeping cold water algae
in a tropical setup? I have just returned from a trip
to San Francisco and picked up some macroalgae from the
Pacific beach: it was looking so nice I could not resist ;-)
Beautiful red, lush green - I have several small pieces.

I wonder if they *require* water to be so cold (50-60F) or
will they survive in a warmer environment of a regular reef?

To not bring any diseases to my main tank I placed them
in a small container for now filled with room-temperatured
water from my tank - some kind of quarantine...
How long should I quarantine this algae to be safe?
Can I use some chemicals to clean them from potential
parasites or other "zoo" polutants not destroying plants
tissue?
