Moving fish across
I have an angelfish, 8 harlequin rasboras and a common pleco. In about a week I will be moving across country, a 2 day drive. I was planning on selling/giving my fish to the lfs, but as the time approaches I don't want to give them up. Can they survive the trip? I've got a battery powered airpump, and I was thinking of putting them in a styrofoam cooler to minimize temperature changes. Any suggestions. (my only local fishkeeping friend does just sal****er, otherwise I'd give them to a good home) Tom |

I moved my fish from Seattle to Indiana a few years back with only one loss.
I used a regular Coleman cooler which I used aquarium sealant to plug the drain hole. I also drilled holes in the lid to allow the air to escape that my pump was pushing in. Keep the cooler out of the sun and off the floor of the car. The floor on some cars can be a lot hotter than the seats when you are rolling down the road and that heat will raise the temp in the cooler if it is setting on the floor. Don't forget to acclimate your fish to the new water supply when you reach your destination. I think the water chemistry change stressed my cardinals tetras and it took them about two weeks to really get their color back. "FshHeads" wrote in message ...
