New tank setup advice needed
 
Go with a deep sand bed, Southdown if you can find it.
check out http://ipsf.com/ to get that bed jump started.

Thanks for the link on the Mandarin. While the guy at my local fish
store didn't specify a time frame for waiting to purchase the
mandarin, he did say that a tank isn't ready to support a mandarin
until even cursory examination of the rock allows one to see 'pods
crawling around in abundance. In any case I am looking forward to
seeing what happens when a tank of just live rock is left alone to
develop.
