Green grass growing on rocks. It spreads like crazy

I hate hate hate hate it.

Phosphate is not a problem

I pull it off the rocks with tweezers. It's like mowing the lawn, it just
comes back faster

I hate it... You get my point here


Any ideas

Depending on the size of your tank and the type of algae, maybe a yellow
tang will work.

I had acquired some LR with lots of the stuff but my yellow tang ate it all.

I have/had the same problem
came in on a bit of live rock..
its not algy its small grass, when u look closely its got the same shaped
leaves as that capnella stuff or whatever the hell its called?
from a distance it almost looks like hair algy.
i still have a little but its not spreading atm. only thing i have done
diferent is started using a Zeolite my pool shop sells, is teh same kind as
the main ingredint of Zeovit. and not i have almost no other algy for the
turbo snails to eat so they keep everywhere i have plucked off the rock VERY
celan and even start moving into fresh earas now. i was told turbo snails
will not eat it but mine are. i guess maybe they will when theres not much
else?

If it's what I think it is, it's tough and has a wire like texture. It will
spread over everything if it's not controlled. I holds on to the rock with a
death grip too, making it extremely hard to pull off. It's very common on
reefs in the wild, but because tangs love it so much, you rarely see very
large patches of it. Most of the time, a yellow tang will eat it til he
pops.

hmm nice. iv been wanting to get a yellow tang anyway :)

I had a lovely Yellow Tang in the past, which wouldn't touch the stuff.

And yes your right it's tough.

My father in law also suffers with the same 'grass' problem. In actual
fact, I think that I managed to transfer it from his tank into mine, when he
gave me some stock. He has had many a Tang in his tank, and none of them
would touch it either.

The stuff is that tough I think they just give up

I have a Yellow Tang who refused to eat it- until Hurricane Frances.
As the power was out and they were running on a generator with no lighting,
I skipped feeding the reef tank for three days to keep my water quality up.
Evidently he got so hungry that hair algae started looking pretty good and
even though I have resumed feeding he is still eating it right down to the
nubs.

Now if I could just interest him in some Green Star Polyps...

My Tang graze on all types of algae.
Tang is a grazer.

CapFusion,...

The tough green algae is Bryopsis.

You could chisel it off with various dental hand-held tools.
