Maracyn and Shrimp?
 

I did some Google search and couldn't come up with a conclusive answer
as to whether Maracyn would hurt my Bamboo Shrimps. Does anyone know?

I am beginning to see a possible infestation of Blue Green Algae and I
am preparing for the oncoming battle.

It didn't bother my Amano's or ghost shrimp. If you cannot get any
info, test it. Set up a very small "tank" of some kind and insert one
shrimp. Dose appropriately. If he sickens or dies, you'll have the
info you needed, and will only have lost one.

It didn't bother my Amano's or ghost shrimp.

I can second that erythromycin doesn't seem harmful to shrimp at
recommended dosages.

The real question should be why are you going to battle blue/green
with Maracyn? You should look into why your tank can support
blue/green and remove the nutrients that it needs.

Actually, I did some research after my original post and concluded
that the problem was with my nitrate to phosphate ratio. I believe
that the Amquel+ I used has remove the nitrate hence making phosphate
dominant. I am going to stop using Amquel+ and use a simple
dechlorinator for a while.

My tank just finished cycling, and I am trying to build up some
nitrate concentration. Currently, it is at less than 5ppm.

Just make sure your local water does not contain chloramines.

That would seem to be contrary to what you want. Why do you *want*
more nitrate (poison) in your tank, or am I not getting your point?

Blue-green algae infestation is usually a symptom, not the disease.
Rather than fighting the symptoms you may be better off fighting the
disease: Check ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate levels in your
tank and change water as appropriate. Avoid overfeeding. Make sure there
is enough light, coming from the top rather than the side. Add some live
plants to your tank.

That would seem to be contrary to what you want. Why do you *want*
more nitrate (poison) in your tank, or am I not getting your point?

5ppm is very low for nitrate concentration. I am trying to grow
aquatic plants, I need a slightly higher nitrate level. It is my
understanding that anything under 40ppm is acceptable for fish.
