can we help amphibians?

Amphibians are under pressure everywhere now. Is there anything
aquarists can do to help them (probably little)? I've "adopted" a few
tadpoles before and kept them until they became frog/toadlets and
released them, but that was rather for fun.

Build a pond
keep a bog plant area against the pond and allow a shelving
edge.
I made a big circular pond - the water area is kidney shaped
and the bog area fills in the rest. There is liner under all of
it and it is so dug that water leeches from the main fish area
into the bog area. This is one of the few things in my life i
have got right - i will dig more ponds and stay away from women
in the future

I put a load of pea sticks at one end of the pond tied in a
bunch - this gave the tadpoles somewhere to live until they got
too big for the Koi. They sticks were on a string so they could
be pulled out - one of the few examples of forethought in my DIY
life

You will have frogs, toads and newts flying thru the blades of
your mower all summer long

Now - an amphibian friendly mower!!

Build a pond

This is an excellent suggestion. Small, fish-less, ponds are a rare
commodity these days, and lack of breeding grounds is certainly one
important reason many temperate species of amphibians decline.

LMAO! Perhaps I should dig a pond and stay away from men. Good Idea!

This is what I need. Individually putting frogs in the blender takes too
long - so tedius.

What you guessed I'm in France?!
I like the pond-building idea, but that'll have to wait till I don't
live in an apartment anymore. Unless you have threatened species in your
area, you wouldn't help the species most in need. How threatened are the
(still) ubiquitions Common Frog/Toad and other more common temperate
species?

I don't know how it is in your particular area, but all species of
amphibians are dropping in numbers here in Sweden, mainly due to loss
of suitable breeding habitats. They're still common, but their
populations are rapidly declining, and there is cause for concern.

Of course, europe has very few species of amphibians due to the ice
ages, so the real battle for amphibian diversity is taking place in
the americas.

I don't know if everyone's seen this:

I already have a pond, and I'll share the beer.
