Sea snails in a freshwater tank?

I recently got back from a trip to Aruba, while there I collected some
small shells from the beach - thinking they were empty. When I got
home I put the shells into some water to clean them off - and some of
the shells still had live snails in them!

Could I put these snails into my freshwater aquarium with no trouble -
will the snails survive in freshwater? Will my fish (plattys, rosy
reds, pleco) be fine?

In short, the snails will die, and the shells will deteriorate and
kill your freshwater fish.

Depends on the snails, but I tend to agree with Billy. Better try and
find out what you have. I would seperate them and add the right dose of
instant ocean and then do research on what you have.
