What causes low PH?
Often times pH drops when there is an excess of C02 in the tank, as well as the
air in the room that tank is in. When I open my doors and windows and fill the house with fresh air, my pH rises quite a bit. However, in Texas it is either super hot or quite cold, so I only get to do this maybe 2 months a year. Try aiming a powerhead or two at the surface of the water to cause rippling, which promotes gas exchange. This is more involved, but if your protein skimmer is a venturi driven one, you could run a longer piece of airline tubing from the pump all the way outside, to suck in fresh air all the time. Marc,
Thanks for the info. I live in NJ and usually don't open the windows either. My house is pretty much climate controlled, but my system has a fresh air intake, which I think helps to remove the CO2. Anyway, I will try pointing the powerhead up to the surface, but since I have a Remora AquaC with a maxijet 1200 on a 30 gallon, wouldn't that double as an efficient gas exchange system? Thanks. Yes, having a PS will help as well with gas exchange. I test my pH with a Pinpoint pH
Monitor because I feel it is far more accurate than test kits. Let me know how that goes with the powerhead. Marc .. livingrock wrote: Marc, Thanks for the info. Ain't that just a few miles from Canada? :) We usually have our windows & screen doors open at least 6 months out of the year here in San Antonio. Gotta use the A/C the rest of the year though. Last month my electric bill was $340! And that was before that massive heat wave that just ended a couple days ago. Don't even wanna see this months bill. Ouch!!! Cheers, Dave Johnson |

Dave, we just had hail yesterday. In AUGUST! tsk!
We get ice, very rarely do we get snow, but it does get pretty cold. And we too get humidity, but nothing like Houston or Austin. Does S.A. suffer from massive humidity? My bill was $300 last month. :( Marc, who can drive to Canada in 20 hours! Dave Johnson wrote: "Marc Levenson" wrote in message ... ... Dave, I'm half swiss, Excellent country. I spent a week in Zermott. It was without a doubt the cleanest city and most beautiful scenery I've ever seen for winter setting. I swear that when walking down the hill from the tram to the Kliene Matterhorn you could not tell if it was a painting or real. No, it was way better than a painting - it was almost like you could reach out and touch the scenery. Sorry to get so surreal but it really was, I was walking down the path from the ski lift to the town and it was like a painting and I could touch the scenery. Never had a feeling like that again, it was just so pure. and live for snow. We just don't get any. I love snow too, especially when I can leave in a week or two! :D But seriously I grew up, and wish I could still, go downhill skiiing and play ice hockey (started skating when I was 3) I went to International Falls, MN a few years ago (Jan 1-5) and it was *so cold* the snow would'nt stick. I'd never heard of a place where you couldn't make a snowman, a snowball, or anything! It was snow dust!!!! ;) Now that sounds like how I grew up. The windchill was -40F, and the temp outside was -4 or so. I agree, way way colder than Texas. Yep, so you know what I meant. Just think of that cold for a month when -1 was the HIGH! My bones hurt just thinking about that and it's been 10 years since I've been there in winter! But we (DFW) remain the hail capital of the world. tsk! Luckily we don't get that here in S.A. On another topic, your latest tanks pics are just plain awesome! Cheers, Dave Johnson |

y.com... | I'm from MN so whenever someone from TX says it gets pretty cold | I always have a chuckle. Yeah, same for us Texans when we hear a story like the one about temps in the UK. They were dropping like flies on "the hottest day in history"! It was 96 degrees F! BWAHAAHAAA Lightweights. :) Kev |
