Coralife Turbotwist Warning

After a year, I have now given up completely on the Turbotwist. Decided to
warn others so they can save time and money... and safety.

I had the unit in operation for a couple months, during a routine cleaning,
noticed the quartz tube was full of water, with the UV light.

I cleared out silicone and glue, completely resealed the tube into the
housing. This last another month or so until the seal broke loose again,
this time blowing the light.

I found a reasonably priced replacement bulb recently, and had resealed the
quartz tube again. After a 1/2 hour, the seal popped again, this time,
cracking the quartz tube in two.

I took the time to closely examine the unit this time, as I was dumbfounded
as to how such an expensive unit could be causing such a problem. Looks like
the section that the quartz tube sits in was not perfectly circular, it was
more oval, which created the weak points that eventually lead to leaks into
the electrical sections, and inside the quartz tube.

Overall, it's a very poor design, definately not worth the money that they
want for it. It's pretty cheap compared to others that are available in the
market.

I recommend to anyone that is looking into a UV sterilizer to stay away from
this brand.

Happy New Year!

I have a couple of these units and can't recommend them highly enough. I
have never known anybody that used them to have the problems you are having.
I think it is definately one of the better ones on the market. you either
just got a faulty one, which can happen with any product, or you dropped it
or jarred it to cause it break. But I would most definately keep on
recommending them to others.

that is unfortunate that you have had this experience. I know people that
have them and swear by them. Have you contacted the company itself to see
what they have said and if so, what did they say?. It's fine to point out
the negative aspect of a product but in fairness I would allow the company
to respond to your concern and post that response.
