WHY DO FISH GET GLAZED EYES ??
Hello everyone:
Every now and again, I see a fish (for example a Bala shark or Gourami) with glazed eyes either in a pet store or in my own tank. This happened to me one time ... I purchased this Bala shark however after a week, developed glazed eyes and eventually died even though the water quality was well within acceptable limits. Does anyone know HOW this comes to pass? Is this caused by a parasite or something? What about cures .... is there a way to cure this infliction?? I'm not sure if this little bit of information helps but I picked out this Bala amongst hundreds in a tank ... and in this tank, perhaps 4 or 5 of them already had glazed eyes. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks All !! Jim. |

The bottles have pictures of the problems you can just match the bottle of med up with the problem your fish has. |
Corneal Opacity is the "Glazed Eyes" you're referring to. Usually it is
caused by either poor water quality or bacterial infection. I have successfully treated this by adding a small dose of aquarium salt to the water. I'm using 1 Tbsp per 5 gallons in a planted tank. Corydoras catfish can't handle salt so don't go over that figure if you've got a planted tank. |
Just remembered a few guidelines to that treatment.
Salt doesn't evaporate, so don't add more salt unless you do a water change. And you shouldn't add the same dose during a water change. Just a tiny bit. Make SURE it's aquarium salt or "natural sea salt" not table salt. I usually also do a maintenance dose of salt twice a year for good measure as a tonic. "Dr4g0nf1y" wrote in message ... As did every single cory that came through the fish store where I worked. -- __ Elaine T __ __' http://eethomp.com/fish.html '__ |
