Sick Rics
I just posted this on Reef Central, and thought I'd post it here too for any ideas. Thanks for any help.
purchased these orange and purple rics from Roe's about 6 months ago. They arrived in beautiful shape. I put them in a 20 gallon tank I have had set up for about 2 years, with a BTA, a small clown, and a scarlet reef hermit. This tank is lit by 110 watts of PC. Within a week they looked like this picture. I asked for some opinions here, and was told it looks like they were "light stunned", and to move them to lower light right away. I put them in another tank with Normal Output light for a couple weeks, but they still looked the same. I moved them back to the PC tank for a month, but no difference. They have now been in the Normal Output tank for 3 months. They never have gottten bigger or smaller in either tank, and have looked just like this for months. All the other shrooms and polyps are perfect. Any chance to bring them back? Here's a pic. http://tinyurl.com/6ed4u |
They look fine to me.
Probably your lights were brighter than they were used too. Don't worry, my riccordia is less than 12 inches from a 250w MH and grows fine. If the colour is a bit weak check the iodine and magnesium levels. Mark. "Yukon" wrote in message nk.net... I just posted this on Reef Central, and thought I'd post it here too for any ideas. Hi Mark, thanks for responding. Do they really look OK to you? They have not shown any color for 6 months, and
have stayed shriveled in all that time too. "Mark Elliott" wrote in message .. . They look fine to me. Probably your lights were brighter than they were used too. 6 Months?
Wow. What's your water like? (A/N/N/Alk/Ca/PO4/Mg). How much do you change how often? How much flow have they got? What fish are there, or is it just the clown? Have you tried feeding phyto (live or bottled)? Mark "Yukon" wrote in message ink.net... Hi Mark, thanks for responding. Do they really look OK to you? Hi Mark My water is fine. 0 Am 0 Nitrite almost undetectable nitrate, CA 600. Don't know about Mg. The
only thing in there is the BTA and the clown, and macro algae have been perfect in there for over a year. And the tank I had them in before has been set up for 11 years, and everything in there - mushrooms, polyps, toadstool, bubble coral are all perfect - for years. It's just these rics that have been like this for so long, and I wondeed why. I haven't fed them, and I do have Kent Phyto. Maybe I'll try to turkey bast a little by them a few times a week.
