Filter Help
I have a Fuval 404 that is just over a year old. I had to replace the
impeller and impeller cover. The problem is that I am getting a small amount of leaking around the handles so I replaced the motor housing O-ring. Because of this it is not working. Any suggestions. -- ---------- www.fotosbyharvey.ca Logic is a tweeting bird in a green meadow. - Mr. Spock |
I would contact hagen...you might find a contact email adress on
www.hagen.com that would be the best option. I heard that the O ring has to be wet when you first put it on...its all in the manual. Make sure that you have put everything together correctly..sometimes if the baskets arent sitting correctly, it can make everything else not fit. Can you hear the motor spinning (if not, check power supply) and the impeller turning (if not, check that it did not get stuck, especially the small gap between magnet and its housing is easily clogged)? Is there air in the filter that prevents pumping (fill completely with water, impeller driven pumps are not self-filling)? Is there still leakage at the O-ring (make sure it is in the correct position before putting the powerhead back)? In the long term you may want to check into matt filters, these are biologically better, cheaper and more reliable than external ones. Unfortunately, they can be mounted only in an empty, dry tank. |
Make sure that leaking is not just water coming out of the gaps on the
top of the filter. When I filled my fluval msf 404 for the first time I pored some water on the top of the filter accidentally and I in particular use that filter on it's side so that it will work with a tank that is low to the floor of the room. When I turned the newly filled filter onto it's side for use a lot of water came out from what I discovered to be gaps in the top and when I left it alone for a few days (I would have noticed much earlier if I had looked harder) the carpet beneath the filter was totally dry and I now know why the water pored out of what I now know to be gaps in the filter top. HTH, later! |

Are you piping CO2 into the intake? The carbonic acid attacks the seals and causes cracks and such in about a years time. -- Jim Anderson ( 8(|) To email me just pull my_finger |
Thanx for all the suggestions. One mean mother of an air lock someplace.
Once I got it running it now works like a dream. "Jim Anderson" wrote in message et... In article , "Lobsang Mack" hmack at rogers dot com says... I have a Fuval 404 that is just over a year old.
