I've got one (don't know the brand) that has been running continuously for about
15 years.

Thanks! Please tell me the brand if you can. Mine have lasted only 2.5 years
or less, even with regular cleaning.

I've gotten a lot more time than that with Hagens. I've got two old heads in my
spare parts drawer. They were on my tank for years. Unfortunately, one of them
has no markings on it. The other says "Made in Italy" and "Powerhead 402." I've
got another small one that's been driving my skimmer for about 4 years. I think
it's an Aquaclear.

I didn't know what it was until I looked it up. It is definitely a hagen
powerhead. It is an old model, but looks just like this one:

I say that only because when I bought it, it was about $90. But this one looks
a lot like mine. It has reversible flow, and pumps a lot of water. When I
first bought it, I was raising tilapias. When I would clean the tank and
gravel, the new water would be cloudy from cleaning the gravel, but this pump,
used on the freshwater undergravel filter I had at the time, would clear the
water in about 30 minutes. I use it now to add to the movement of water in my
reef tank. It has been a great pump. I've had others that have failed, but this
one just keeps on pumping, 15 years and counting now.
