ORANDA TORN FIN
"Rescued" two orandas from LFS; nice sized fish kept in overcrowded
conditions. They have a fungal infection which I hope to cure. One black, one multi-colored. Both improved immediately upon being placed in clean water (6 days ago). Using Maracyn for Fungus; CopperSafe for parasites. QUESTION: The larger fish has a pectoral fin that is split all the way to the body. Swimming OK; no obvious loss of balance. Will this fin repair itself? They are both eating well, eating everything! Seem happy in 29 gal tank (which is cycling; I wasn't prepared to bring any livestock home at the time). n |

If it's damage rather than infection [fin rot] and if your water hygiene is good, then very possibly. I haven't had this in a goldfish, but a weather loach with this exact problem healed within a week with no active treatment in my part except water changes to minimise the risk of infection. I'm not sure that the cycle and the fact that the fish are already "low" is going to help the issue, though. -- sophie |
