Black Moor Needs Help
Hi all,
I'm new to the goldfish hobby. Bought a 10 gallon starter aquarium 3 months ago with one black moor and two other small fish. All has been fine until today. The moor is moving very little, mostly floating belly up at the surface. One eye has turned cloudy and the body has some red/orange discoloration. Have been feeding flakes exclusively, but today the moor won't eat at all. Water has always appeared a bit hazy but not too much. I tested today for ammonia and results were good (almost none present). The moor doesn't look like he'll make it through another day. Would appreciate suggestions. Thanks, George |

You're fairly overstocked, so water quality is likely to be an on-going issue. feeding exclusively flakes is bad for fish, especially fancy goldfish. for the moment, I would do aggressive water changes, 50% twice daily (morning & evening) until ammonia shows zero then 50% daily. Unless you know for a fact that there is no chloring/chloramine added to your water, then use a dechlorinator otherwise you kill off your filter bacteria and poison your fish. Stop feeding for a few days. When you do start feeding again, initially feed a few blanched skinned peas, then a varied diet including veggies and if possible live/frozen foods. I'm guessing that as well as water quality problems your fish is constipated. if your other two fish are goldfish, your tank should be approximately three times the size :-( hope this helps, -- sophie www.freewebs.com/fishstuff (under construction. ish.) |
