Another animal offered at IPFS are mini clams genus Tapes

Can you tell me something about your experience with them?
Have you looked up their scientific species name?

I just got 6 of them in my $99 deal...

They are the same ones that you can find burrowing at the beach right at the
water line... Or at least they look identical to me...
They all burrowed immediately and I have not seen them since. I am hoping
that they will move around a little to keep the substrate loose...

I got some in a package. They never burrowed and were dead in a month.
Everything else from the package has taken off and doing fine after almost a
year.

Interesting... Could you throw a couple words about your setup?
How long is the tank going, what substrate you have on the bottom,
do you have any predatory starfish etc.
Just curious... What other items did you pick for your $99 package?

My entire setup has going for about a year now. My friends tell me it's out
of control. I have a 65 gal reef with 1" crushed coral in my living room
that is all plumbed to the basement. In the basement I have a 55 gal FOWLR,
12 gal sump that has heaters, 2 skimmers, top off floats, and a seperate 22
gal refugium with DSB. These are all tied together and share the same water
supply. The DSB is 6" of silicone sand. The package I bought went into the
refugium and included the clams that later died, mini serpants, spaghetti
worms, bristle worms, amphipods, hermits & nassarius snails. The only thing
I've added that wasn't in the package is a black cucumber and some zebra
snails. Other than the clams everything is going great.

I have not seen mini serpent stars as an option in $99 kit.
Maybe they have change their offer...

Maybe silica sand you have is not proper due to sharp edges?
I do not know, just guessing. I used natural (not crushed)
aragonite for my DSB and it is surprisingly soft when touch.

He said that my plumbing and filter system was "out of control" meaning he
wouldn't be able to keep it going if I went out of town, even though it's
pretty much self sustaining. I don't have any drawings of the plumbing at
this time. I keep thinking I'm going to put something on a web site but
haven't found the time yet. The DSB is sugar fine consistancy so I don't
know that grain size was the problem. I got my kit close to a year ago and I
know from the time I looked until I bought it some of the options had
changed so I think they change their options from time to time. When I find
the time to put more information on a web site I will post that here. Thanks
