what fish?
 

Hello, All!
Hate to be a nuisiance, but bought these three unnamed cichlids last week,
LFS had no idea what they are.
Can anyone ID these fish and will they be compatible with a sooky O and a
JD, oh, I forgot the Juv convict that also reigns.
At the moment they are in Q tank, and feed on Flake.
Any help will be appreciated.

They are cichlids. How much more do you need to know? ;~) My guess is
that they are African cichlids, from lake Malawi, known as mbuna. That
might narrow the search down.

Thanks NetMax, unfortunately I have scoured most of the cichlid webs with no
success, thats why I'm asking here and anywhere else that may help answer my
questions ie: what are they and will they co- habit with the aforementioned.
The pics were posted twice on alt. binaries.aquaria, the first time was
just a little large, sorry new to posting to newsgroups and stuffed up.
I do however read and practice a hell'uva lot of stuff that you people
recommend.
Anyway all help is appreciated.

They look like juvenile peacocks or haps from the African rift lakes.
Possibly an Aulonocara spp. or Sciaenochromis ahli. I personally don't
kow how to tell them apart until the males have colored up. In general,
rift lake cichlids will not co-habit with convicts or any other South
American cichlids. They use different stances and coloration to
communicate aggression and so and cannot resolve territory conflicts.
Also, the rift lake cichlids tend to be smaller and can require
considerably different water parameters from South Americans depending
on the lake of origin. I have no idea what a "sooky O" or "JD" are.
Try using scientific names or more standard trade names.

ROFL. Methinks the fish in the photos would eventually become feeders
for an Oscar.
