Albino Convict

I recently was given an albino convict. It is 2.5 inches long now.
The previous owner left it behind in an apartment when they left. It was
in a One Gallon Aquarium. I transfered it to a larger aquarium and set
about trying to determine what it was. It took Me a month to figure out
what I had.

I would like to set up a tank with some tank mates. At the
moment he is alone. My Question is what should I put in with him. I
thought about other convicts but everything I have read indicates that
they bread like rabbits and I understand it is not a good idea to put two
males in the same tank. I don't have the setup up to handle a breeding
tank so I would like some suggestions as to what breed of fish could
live with a convict. One website I visited suggested firemouths.

I am new to cichlids and would like any suggestions that you might have

Thank You

A lot depends on the size of your tank. Are we talking about a 20g or a
55g, as the answers would be quite different. Generally speaking you could
be successful with similarly sized fish such as Geos, Firemouths, Rainbows,
Acaras, Texans etc, or fish which live in another world, below (plecos,
catfish & loaches) or above (long thin fast fish such as Giant danios, Congo
tetras), or of a different activity level and body shape (ie: Tiger barbs),
but much depends on the sex of the fish, tank size, size of fish and order
of introduction. This is part science, part art, part psychology... and
part gambling ;~)

Presumably this is a White Convict, aka Pink Convict, not an albino
fish. It has black eyes, not pink or red, right?

You can keep a Red-tailed Black Shark together with it. I think you
can keep most of the Barbs with it as long as you stay away from the
small ones like the Cherry Barb or Checkerboard Barb. The grey
botia-type loach, Red-finned Loach it might be called, can be kept
with it.

The tank should have some size to it to keep these other cichlids with
it. I've kept this fish together with Jack Dempsies, Texas Cichlids,
Firemouths, Oscars, the usual-colored Convict Cichlid of course.
