I have a problem
 

I have a pond with some assorted fish and a few plants. Every couple of
weeks though, the water and the walls of the pond turn green. Can
anybody tell me why and how to fix it?

Umm, what is the water and walls doing between these intervals? :-) It is
natural and actually helpful for algae to grow on the walls of your pond.
It is also natural for the water to turn green. Having said that, green
water is an indication that there is nutrient build up in your pond that
needs to be addressed. You need to give us more information, such as the
capacity of your pond, number of fish, how many plants, what kinds, water
parameters (pH, alkalinity, temperature, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, etc),
what kind of filtration you have (and pump flow rate), how old the pond is,
etc. Give us this information and we can more accurately tell you what you
need to do. A link to a picture or two of your pond would also be helpful.

New ponds cycle through a green water stage as they get balanced
biologically. Most of us just wait it out or perhaps move to a UV light
that will kill the algae. Your plants and filter are important to
gaining a balance in the artificial ecosystem of the pond.

I suspect someone will point you to one of the suggestion pages that
talk about your problem. You could Google green water and come up with
one in a hurry.

The green on the sides of the ponds is good. It acts as part of the
filtration system. It consumes the nutrients that feed the green water.
Limit water changes to about 10% per week and wait. Patience is the real
cure for green water.

Please don't take this suggestion sreriously, bleach will kill
everything. Such a pity some people have nothing better to do with
their time than post silly remarks like that.
