Python problems
 

I've had a Python about a year that I've used for clean and refill my
aquarium. When I used it today, it drained just fine, but when it came time
to refill, it wouldn't send any water out the hose to the tank. I took the
green plastic unit apart to look for clogs and was unable to locate any
problem. I also checked all the fittings with the hose and also could not
find any problem.

When I move it to the positing to fill the tank, the water sprays out from
the bottom and around the sides. Can anyone suggest what the problem might
be and/or how to fix this?

Dunno, you haven't got a blockage have you?

Shut off valve shut off? Simple but easy to overlook.
Kinks in the hose? Might be at the top of the gravel vac tube or somewhere
down the line. If it is at the top of the tube, you may have to lay the tube
down across the tank and hold it with the lid to straighten the kink out.
The python hose is harder to kink than some hoses, but you still have to be
careful how you roll it up and store it. If it kinks, you can run hot water
thru it to help it straighten but it may tend to kink there again. You'll
have to always watch it. I've considered a hose clamp to hold that spot open
on my 24" tube Python, I'm afraid to cut it to just replace that first inch
or so. I don't know how easy it is to re-secure there.

Thanks for the ideas, but none of these solve the problem. I'm pretty
stumped since everything looks great. It just won't work anymore.

Python problems
 

Just a shot....but maybe there's a loose stone or something blocking water
coming in that direction?? The next time you're using to empty the tank,
make sure you empty all the water out of the hose before you shut off the
water (or switch the direction) to make sure everything is out. Also, you
could check the washers in the unit that attaches to the faucet. Don't know
if any of this will help...just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. :-)

It's probably no longer making a good seal around the bottom of the python.
If you examine the bottom, there's two metal screws that slide along a
plastic channel (you'll see what I mean when you take a look). Chances are
they have eroded the channel enough to no longer provide a good enough seal
around the bottom. You'll probably have to replace the actual python part
(either order it from python, or buy one designed for water beds, which I
believe is virtually identical, except for the color), then change the metal
screws at the bottom to plastic one so you don't encounter this problem
again.
