Tank padding?

Hi;
I read about putting some kind of pad under a tank to even out the pressures
from the stand and tank bottom but no one gives the material.
What sort of material? Styrofoam?

Will carpet pad do?

How thick?

Should I put the LR on egg crate to distribute the weight evenly? Will
there be stagnation in the egg crate under the rock?

This tank is 100g homebuilt with a 5/8th bottom and no trame...the glass
will sit directly on the 1-1/2 platform top.

Many thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan

My guide books all state polystyrene about 1/2 inch (1.25 CM) for the base
of the tank.

For the LR; are you going to use a substrate?

Regards

Yes, I plan on Aragonite over CC.

Thanks
Dan

Home Depot sells full sheets (4' x 8') for under $10. Look in Building
Materials for it. It is pink!

My 100g will be homemade (by a friend in the glass business, not me 8^) and
have a 5/8"
bottom which will be flat, not raised. Does that cause a problem?
How thick is this pink stuff?

Thanks, Dan

1/2" , 3/4" or 1" thick. It is ONLY a cushion to disperse the pressure points,
you still need a nice rigid surface beneath the foam.
