Anemone question
 

Can anyone tell me if there are any anemones that will do well in an 80
gallon tank w/260 watts of light? Power compacts, 50/50 bulbs. Or is this
simply not enough light?

as long as you have good water quality you could give it a shot

I have a bubble tip anemone in a 30 gallon/3' tank with 4 fish.
I have two 96W power compacts over the tank: 10000K and Actinic.

I got mine BTA in mid November, 2003. It was very small then,
less than 2 inches. My pair of young maroon clowns were much
larger than the anemone. I was affraid they will hug it
until it die... but it did not happen... They did not notice
anemone for about 2-3 weeks. Anemone nicely embeded itself
to the central section of the rock and just kept growing...
I feed it frozen krill, adult brine shrimp (with turkey baster)
chunks of fish meat... Let me tell you - this beast grows
really fast! Now, after almost 2 years, it grown to about
1 foot across the oral disk, not counting tentacles...
Clowns defend it as their home and now are much, much smaller
than the anemone which outgrown the tank... It just takes 1/3
of my tank volume, in mid section and it is a center piece.

So I would say - go for it... But before you do, read very

captive raised clones out there and these are much hardier than wild
ones.

That is good news indeed! For both the environment and the hobby.

Can you point to where one might obtain some of these
"captive raised" anemones?

Have you any reef or marine aquarium clubs near or in your area??? I
belong to one here that makes those most "rare" and unseen
available... There are some members north of me that report great
success with the captive raising/splitting process. www.utahreefs.com

Anemone question
 

Thanks everybody. I've been wanting to add an anemone, but was not sure if I
had enough light. Water quality is not an issue. The tank sat empty for a
couple of months while I researched what to do and bought all the test kits
and supplies.

I'll add it after I move. I am NOT looking forward to tearing this thing
down, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
