ASM Skimmer Question

Those of you who have an ASM skimmer...have you modified it so the
collection cup drains into some other container, or did you leave it alone
and empty the cup manually?

I have done both. I have a couple that I have installed a small
bulkhead fitting with a drain going into a larger container, but most of
them I just empty the cup when needed that way I don't ever not clean
the neck of the cup like I happen to do with the draining units.

OK...thanks. I'm just trying to decide which way to go before I order one.

I modded my Euroreef this way. I've found that the buildup, and
subsequent reduction in performance is more important than not having
to empty the cup. I suppose that if the tank were heavily stocked,
and you would have to empty it 3-4 times a day, it would be worth it.

ASM Skimmer Question

I simply dump when needed, manually.

Thanks. It seems the consensus is to leave it alone, so that's what I'll do.

ASM Skimmer Question

I plan to order the G3 skimmer in the next day or two. Since ASM skimmers go
inside the sump, just how much of a problem is the loss of water volume? I
was initially planning to get a model that sits outside the sump. For the
record, my sump is an Oceanic model 1 that appears to be about a 20 gallon
total capacity.
