Platy Baby
 

The saga of the tanks continue,

I was just about to separate out an aggressive platy when my #1 son,
with the eyes of a hawk, noticed that we no longer had 2 platies but
3.... or should I say 2.01?

Itty bitty teensy baby platy is now in the net breeder hanging inside
the 10 gallon tank. I've put a small quantity of gravel and one of the
smaller artifical plants in with said itty bitty and have powdered the
regular food to as fine as possible.

I also ran out to the LFS and got a brine shrimp hatchery and some
liquid food. The former is currently in process of hatching, probably
not going to have anything useful for a good six to twelve hours. The
latter... goes right thru the netting.

So, any advice beyond what I'm doing that might help ensure that #2.01
fish grows up to be #3?

Hi Deborah! I remember you from the goldfish newsgroup! See - I knew you
would do great with tropical fish as opposed to goldfish! Goldfish are
probably the worst fish a beginner could start out with they are alluring
because of their beauty but deadly (to themselves in this case) in their
needs and are very wasteful/inefficient in mankind's artificial nature
(there natural forms are probably much more efficient mankind's selective
breeding really messes with the target creatures nature drastically
unfortunately in bad ways). See - you platy(s) ave reproduced which means
you are most likely doing a great job. I feel relieved for you, I remember
how much you struggled with goldfish. Good luck to you and later!

P.s. - you might try some freeze dried or otherwise daphnia (very small
crustaceans)!

Actually... *grin* I'm doing fine with the goldfish. I just moved them
to a bigger tank. Well, the lone survivor. He/She is doing fine and
that tank has cycled with the assistance of a better filter and
Stability.

The next goldfish will be going in after his quarantine is up. Much of
the goldfish problems - I strongly suspect - were as much due to sick
fish from the LFS, rather than just the ammonia problems of the 10
gal. Since all of the tropicals I lost (after cycling the 10 gal) were
also from that store my suspicions rise.

Anyway, there's actually another teensy baby flitting around (or was
this morning) but he didn't want to be caught and seemed big enough
that I think he's got a better chance than the wee mite of surviving.

Wee mite is getting First Bites right now and I have some brine shrimp
hatching in the utility room. Any other suggestions for it? I've given
him a place to hide inside his net, so I think he's happy enough. I
see him out and about a bit over the day.

Sounds like you are doing quite well. First bites is good, the only other
suggestion I think is maybe liquifry 3 or micro food (micro food is by osi I
think). Glad to hear the goldfish is doing good, too bad about the losses
all round though. Sounds like you have a good handle on things - good luck
