Lighting Question...part 2
 

In a subsequent post I had asked what lighting was recommended for a 29g
(US) planted tank. Currently I have the stock lighting, and although the
plants are doing alright, they could obviously do much better with the
proper lighting. I have looked on a couple of site and found 36in lighting
kits, but I haven't found anything that will fit a 29" lighting assembly.
Am I looking in the wrong places? Please help!

id recommend a 55g tank. i also had the same problem you are having,
and there is nothing better/cheaper than going to home depot and getting
2 shop lights for liek 8.50 a piece to house a total of 4-4 foot
flourescent tubes. 55g tank = 4 foot long. for a 29G you can try
getting a glass top maybe and then two of the hood lights you currently
have?

Hi Steve ,

I have a tall bow tank your size. I used the standard flourescent
that came with it and found lower portions of the plants were dying. I
changed over to BIG AL's 24 " - 55 watt canopy and fluorescent. Cost
about 100cdn but wow it's worth it. Replacement bulbs aren't cheap
(45 ish cdn) and need to be changed every 6months- darn!!!

I've also learned to add potassium along with regular fertilizer since
my swords were turning colour at the edges.

30" is a common size. You can retrofit with a 55/65W power compact
which has a 21" tube. A complete kit with reflector is available from
AH Supply. The Coralife Aqualight is a complete assembly, also
available in 30" length. Either would provide enough light to grow a
variety of plants.

In what form is the Potassium you're using? Are you using the regular P for
gardens or the mineral pills made for human consumption? The fertilizers I
have for Aquarium use are all combos.
