Air Line Deposits
 

Can anyone tell me what keeps appearing on my airline tubing, it looks like
flaked food that has gone all soggy and as soon as you touch it it all comes
off making a mess inside the tank.

Probably minerals from your water. I quit using air in my tanks due
to mineral deposits. Hard to clean, ugly to look at. My fish in 5
tanks have shown no problem without the air and 4 of my 5 tanks are
heavily populated.
