opps sorry i didt mention the size..its a 48x18x12.

picked up a bit of live rock.. and 4 pieces of ocean rock...i brought a
RO unit as i figured its cheaper than buying it from the lfs.

so at the mo my tank stands with the water at 75f..2 pieces of live
rock(will be buying another 4 on wednesday) 4 pieces of ocean rock 2
powerheads and a airstone.

is it worth adding the skimmer at this stage?

LR and RO ok but no comment on your ocean rock. My opinion on this will not
be good.

So far seem ok. Again, no comment on the ocean rock.
Is that ocean rock you pick up from the ocean near you or you buy from some
place and it call ocean rock?

Live Rock is farm or aqua-cultural from a safe area or pick up from ocean
where they seed this rock. [I am not sure if that make any sense to you]

I do not normally pickup rock from the ocean as the reason I stated above
can be contaminate by bad stuff.

Yes, you can add skimmer at this stage. It will help remove any nutrient
that may flowing / floating around the tank. During this time, you can do
some constant water change to help it along. Monitor your water by your
favorite test kit for Anmonia / Nitrite / Nitrate.

Try to bump up your temperature a little higher. I would try to keep it around 78F,
rather than 75F.

i got it from the place i got the LR from. its not picked up from around
our shores.i was told will become live over time.its looks lke the same
stuff just bare thats all and dry..i gave it a good rinse under the tap
the gave it a shake in some RO water.if that makes sense.

And I would even recommend 80-82 MAny people strive for 82-84.. Most of our
corals are collected from reefs that average 84-88 degrees, and keeping them in
78 degree waters causes them to use more of their motabolism to just stay warm,
instead of using the metabolism for growth.. The article linked below will

It should be fine. Sound like dry base rock. This is what aqua cultured
live rock starts out as.
