i am new to this hobby of marine fishkeeping. i am at present a
discus- keeper for some 7 years and i know in the discus trade, who
you get your livestock from is the foundation for success. there is
alot of bad discus stock out there.
anyway can i presume the same in the marine livestock arena?
i would appreciate suggestions on where to look for reputable marine
livestock vendors.
local fish stores in my area are for the birds. i can tell from the
caliber of discus they sell.-guy

No decent LFS in my area either. You can tell from the fact that they
only carry Prizm skimmers and Rio pumps. g
I've had excellent luck with www.fishsupply.com. It's a small
operation, so they're a bit slow on responding to emails, but the
quality of the critters I've recieved has been terrific.

Do I understand correctly the most of discus livestock comes
from captive bred fish? Opposite is true for marine fish/inverts.
Only few are captive bred, the most is from divers, stright from reefs.

I have purchased many animals from several stores and no problems.
Most often I buy life from www.liveaquaria.com and www.reeftopia.com
not counting many local LFS purchases here around Chicago...

yes it is true most discus for sale in the states is tank bred. lfs
with poor discus stock MAY have decent sal****er since, like you say
they are caught in the wild. however poor discus stock in the store is
a reflection on their overall business practices and can reflect
shoddy care and maintenance of all their livestock and i prefer not to
do business with such businesses.-guy
