Feeding egg's YOKE to Fry
I have angelfish fry.
And I heard of feeding them three drops of egg yoke mixed with a glass of
water and then adding that to the tank containing fry.

Has anyone heard of this?
Or does anyone have the details on feeding egg yoke

Currently I use the latter to feed my slipper tank which later drips into my
fry tank
but it is to soon to post the results.

I have fed guppy fry cooked egg yolk. A very little bit goes a long way and
they love it. Mix some with a little tank water and drip in drop by drop.

I have found that angels, the STUPIDest cichlid!, will
starve themselves to death before eathing any non-live food.

I experimented for years, egg yolk (which works for nearly
all other fry), decapsilated brine shrimp, etc etc etc..
Only baby brine, will let you raise them all.

Other small enough live foods also work, but only while
it is moving. Angel fry do not browse.

the oven till dry).

Don't know if your Angles will take to it, but if all else fails then why
not try.

Did you feed Dry egg yoke to day old fry?

How did you cook them, did you boil the yoke first?

Feeding egg YOKE to Fry
 

Yes, from day one, it was cooked in a dehumidifier. Which is basicly the
same as a fan forced oven (under 85deg'C) for around 2 hours.
Feeding was simplys squashing the yoke between the fingers in the tank water
to make it break up into a mist in the water.
After a week I started adding flake food that was put dry into a blender and
turned into a fine powder. I feed yoke in the morning, then in the arvo,
then a tweezer pinch of flake powder.
It's now 1 month, and I still have the same dried egg yoke in a jar and the
same powdered flake food.
I also checked the tanks water every 3-5 days with water from the parents
tank.
5 days after the adult stopped holding the fry in the mouth I removed the
adult and put it back into the main tank.
The fish are now 1 month old and will take fairly good sized peices of egg
yoke now, so I no longer have to crush it up so much.
I also guess that the egg yoke could have been put into a blender but didn't
bother since it crunbled apart so well.

I completely stopped using egg YOKE (yolk) ;-)
for my Angelfish as the fry don't really eat dead food
or flake, I have discovered that Baby Brine Shrimp are
easy to hatch although, some of my angelfish fry are
to small for the BBShrimp.

So I am at this stage of the game.
I put algae fish food into a bucket of water and leave it covered with
plastic
outdoors to create "green water"
After 24 hours of the eggs being laid I remove the Breeding slate to
a Large Relish Jar containing water, Methyblu and a air stone.
The Jar is placed in a large heated tank.

The green water is used in setting up a
rearing tank as follows:
30 gallon
AquaClear filter with a large sponge on the inlet.
Heater 84 degrees
Added the green water, and waited three weeks
while doing water changes normally.

Back to the Breeding slate.
When I see a couple of fry tails moving at each egg (three days)
I start removing (Pouring out, 25%) of the Blue water
every day and replacing it with the water that was heating the jar.

Note: I have discovered for me that if I use fish tank water
that weeks later the fry won't make it, 95% of them die.

Soon the fry will be at the bottom of the jar in a tight group,
at this time I remove the slate and dead eggs.
When they start jumping (learning to swim, 5% of them)
I move the Jar to the Green Water tank and continue
the aeration.
Note: I have the air line set up at the green water tank
before I even start as I have discovered that they NEED
the aeration 100% of the time at this stage.

Within the next three days the fry learn to swim out of the jar
leaving the waste which is easily removed from the green water
tank.

Food
I have cut the bottom out of a plastic coke bottle and clamped it
upside down to the tank (5 gallon "food grade" bucket) that was used
in the warming of the (breeding slate jar) and added 70% water
brine shrimp and aeration for one hour, then I add one heaping
tea spoon of normal table salt (sifto, not windor as windor has sugar),
It is my belief that sugar promotes fungus and other little nasty.
24 hours later I turn off the aeration to the plastic bottle and wait.
The eggs shells float, the dead eggs sink so I use a air hose to
siphon the middle of the bottle where the swimming bbshrimp are
into a Brine Shrimp net, rinse and release to the Green Water tank.

And that is where I am at.

Maybe this time I'll get a full batch... crossing my fingers!

That is a lot of work, but for some fish it's needed. The green water
(phytoplankton) method you use sounds very interesting, I have been making
my own a different way, maybe a lot slower, so I will try the algae wafers
(sprilina) too and see if it produces it faster.

Can you tell me how you thought about that method. And why you put a plastic
cover over it. Also, how long does it take to get green water and just how
green is it ?

For me, I have many 20 litre water containers and I use 1 or 2 filled with
old tank water and left in a mostly shaded area outside, after 1-2 weeks it
goes green. I use this mostly for my reef tank and tried with brine but the
brine died rather fast. I must admit my brine setup is only temparary and
not well thought out. My first batch of green water is over 1 month old and
is being used to spawn new buckets of green water. I am working on a way to
make a continous 0 maintainance setup of dripping water from the main tank
into the green water buckets and having them drip into a sump, but I need to
get a rather large startup culture first as I want to increase to dose rate
back to the tank.

Have you worked out an effective 'Green water' to 'Clean Water' ratio for
the Brine Shrimp ?. I think I put too much green water into my brine
hatchery and that might have upset the water quality. I test the water for
phosphates and the green water does raise the PO4 by a fair bit.

Also what lighting did you use ?, I found a single fluro light with a 'Cool
White' branded light was enough.
