Background and Lighting Question
Hi all,
Just finished adding shelves to the stand of my 55G tank. The gravel has been cleaned and put in the tank. I've got two minor questions. 1) What kind of background (colorwise) is the best for silvery fish? 2) A while ago someone posted a link to a sight that compares different kind of fl. bulb. It included price, spectrum, etc. Can someone repost that link for me? I thought i saved it but can't find it. TIA -Ben |

I think the link you are looking for is Hoa G. Nguyen's http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/H...7/spectra.html If not, I have others :o) NetMax |

How'd I know you'd be the first to answer! :-) (On a side note as someone who works in a store, do you happen to know why all-glass tanks don'e come with shelves? I was guessing that it's for people who need lots of room for sumps or something like that. Me, I think it's lots of wasted space and I'm real happy I put them in. Most useful $30 I spent on the tank in a while. I took pictures and will post them somewhere soon.) Most dark backgrounds (black, dark blue) highlight fish colours nicely IMO. Great. That's what I thought. I think the link you are looking for is Hoa G. Nguyen's http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/H...7/spectra.html If not, I have others :o) That's exactly what I was thinking about. I thought it gave a little more detail on what to look for in a bulb. Do you have something that tells like that? (Like that spec is the best, etc). TIA -Ben |

Either the construction is good and they cost a small fortune, or the construction is minimal, and you find yourself adding a shelf or even some additional structural support inside. Shop around, there is some new models coming out. One manufacturer is switching over to a European (metric) tank design where the glass sides have no plastic trim on top, and the light canopy slides over the edge. I think this one comes with a stand which has a shelf behind the 1 or 2 cabinet doors. Shop around and prepare to be dissapointed until you find a suitable unit. I tend to build my own wood stands (and caps), or I use welded steel stands. Most dark backgrounds (black, dark blue) highlight fish colours nicely IMO. Great. That's what I thought. When it comes to quantity of links you are indeed "the bee's knees, the cat's pajamas, the cuppa tuity-fruity, the true kahuna of bigness." I am but the humble student. Now where did I put that definitative NetMax links html file? -D -- Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. -Mark Twain (1835 - 1910) |
Background and Lighting Question
I have my own website under construction, and as soon as I'm finished,
I'll post the 'definitive' html file, with whatever additions anyone would like to contribute. NetMax Yes, let us know when you have it finished. Hope you have some good marine aquarium links. Vicki |
