I have a small case of fungus going on in my tank at the moment, which I seem to be on top of (fingers crossed) Have noticed that my Pearlscale has some small red streaks in the end of his tail. Does this mean anything serious? I am doing daily 50% water changes, adding salt, using Furinase and anti-biotic food. The fish seem to have perked up from yesterday. Slightly more life to them. My black moor is suffering the most but is more livelier today too. Baffled by how they got this. Explains the odd behaviour of my Ryukin now. I also notice about 3 tiny small 'balls' on a plant. They are gone now but wandered if this is why my Ryukin was hovering near by. Is it possible they were eggs. Very small clear balls. Could she have been protecting them?? Not up on goldfish behaviour and spawning. She does look much thiner now although I didn't think she ever looked 'puffy' One day I hope to help others by these experience Thank you all again Mellie Red streaks can be caused by ammonia or nitrates getting out of hand. the water changes and salt you are using should take care of this in the short run, you need to keep a check on your filter when you stop medicating the tank, make sure the cycle gets going properly. I chased a case of red streak for a while, finally gave up and put the fish in the pond. The problem in that case was that the tail was turning red. just a color change in progress. years later the fish is fine. The round balls you found could be goldfish eggs or snail eggs. Goldfish don't guard their eggs, they lay hundreds, then they eat all they can find. Keep monitoring the ammonia and nitrate until things settle down. How large is the tank? Could there be an overcrowding problem? |
Red streaked tail???
Hi, thanks for the reply. No we aren't over stocked. 4 fancy goldfish
in a 55g. Loads of room for them all. I did a water test before the Furanse went in and everything was 'perfect'. I've been doing 2 water changes a week. 1 x 25% and 1 x 10%. I did read that the Furanse can 'mess' with the nitrification cycle but as I only started using it on Thur it would have to be pretty bad. I"ve been doing 50% changes since using that. No idea what it could be. They seem to surprise me whenever I think things are going well. As for the eggs, they seem to have gone. If it was snails then I'm really pleased about that :-) cheers Mellie |
