Hi group!

I bought these fish about a year ago, and forgot what they are. The PS guy
asked me the other day while buying fish what all I had and I have no idea
what these were now. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hard to see in the picture, but to me they kinda look like gold barbs.

Thanx to all that replied, and yes, I think now that you said that, I recall
something about Rosy being part of the name. I appreciate once again

Well guys, I've got a few different opinions VIA email AND on here and I
thought I'd try my hand at getting a better picture of them! If anyone's
opinion changes with the NEW pic, I would like to know. Its always nice to
know what you got for sure, and once I find out for sure, its going on
paper and being taped on the back of the aquarium! hehe

They look mostly like Golden Barbs, Barbus semifasciolatus "schuberti".
They are certainly barbs and not tetras, and they don't look like Rosy
Barbs. Rosies don't have that kind of dark pattern on their sides, but
Goldens sometimes do. Most Goldens (at least around here) are rather pale
yellow with no or just very little dark spotting, but some strains are
brighter yellow/orange with some red highlights, and they often have more
dark spotting/shading on sides.

now that i can see them better i would say they could be Puntius sachsi.

Okay, it sounds as though its unanimous! Their barbs and most likely
Golden Barbs then. Are they a fairly rare type of fish? I bought these at
the pet store and they were kind of expensive for your typical fish
purchase, almost $5.00 a piece US. I appreciate everyone's input!! Thank
you everyone once again!

Nope, but very common type of fish. Very easy to breed, very hardy and so
rather easily available.

And in this case "type" is really more correct than "species", as these
fish are a manmade form of a wild Vietnamese species. Golden Barbs were
called "Puntius sachsi" or "Barbus sachsi" until it was found out that they
are not a real species but a morph of a species, Barbus (Puntius)
semifasciolatus, sometimes known as "Brass Barb".
