1200l/h external filter: too strong..?

I had a local made 1200l/h external filter to a
1.2m tank. The current produced was so strong
they actually killed my Congo Tetra, & Dwarf Neon
Rainbowfish in 2 days. Is this too much turnover
for a 4-feet tank? Anyone can suggest to slow down
the output?

What kind of external filter? Are you saying it's "homemade"? I have a
canister filter that I made a longer spraybar with more holes to reduce the
force, worked well. If it's a hang-on-tank type, isn't there a flow
adjustment?

Local made as in an Eiheim knock-off from .."somewhere.."
It looks like Eheim. And I did use a spary bar but the spurts
are enough to cause turbulent to make my Hygro at the furthest
end from the spray bar (I put my spray bar at left side of the tank)
sway!

At this point, if there is no flow control, and you can't\won't\etc make a
longer spray bar to disperse the blast, there is little you can do, outside
finding a new filter. The instalation of a valve on the outflow line would
work, but depending on the type of motor, it can cause permanent damage to
the filter.
