Fish suggestions for 36g Hex tank.

hey guys just trying to figure out what kind of fish I want to put in
my 36G Hex tank. I haven't set it up yet but am planning on doing it
soon. The water from my tap is hard with a PH around 7.5-8 so I am
just after fish suggestions for fish suitable for my water/tank.

Thanks!

Electric yellows.
Build a nice rock pile in the centre. If you can end up with a few girls the
fry are worth raising.

Gee. We've just been talking about the beauty and grace of a very
large shoal of neons in a planted tank, and here you come with your
empty 36 gallons . . .

Now that was stupid. Next time you suggest fish for a new tank, check
out the water conditions - neons in ph 7.5-8? Forget it.

How about some Rainbows? They come in varying sizes and colours and are
fascinating to watch...the one drawback is that most of the places round
here only stock young fish so you don't get an immediate payback - it
took around 6 months (IME) for the Boesmans and the reds m to come into
their full colours - these might grow a bit large eventually for a 36G
though

check out:-

BTW I am biased...starting to collect rainbows at the moment and love
them to bits. Even the smallest I have (Blue Eyed Getrudes) are full of
personality and character...

Collection so far:-

6 Boesman rainbows
2 Red Rainbows
15-20 Blue Eyed Getrudes
13 Celebes rainbows - these shoal together...

Another option with a high pH and hard water might be African Cichlids....

Which would make a really nice shoal in that 36 and not outgrow it.
With some decent plants they might even breed in there.

Anyone ever buy rainbows from this site:

http://www.thatfishshop.com/rainbowroom

I'm considering it and would like to hear any opinions from
previous/current customers.

Not yet - the reds and 3 of the Boesmans are still in other tanks but
will go in there....it took me a while but I eventually decided to make
it a rainbow tank....I'm pretty sure my mystery fry is a rainbow as he
grows. There will be a few mismatches like the Dwarf DGs (no other tank
to put him in when I tear down the 15 gall to get workspace back in the
kitchen), the Neons, the Panda cories and the clean up crew...the jury
is still out on whether the Clowns get in there (same applies to the
Julli cories)...or in fact whether all of the Gertrudes will go as
well...but the Hex hasn't really worked as a species tank...I've had
them breed in a tank with Platys but not where they should be
doing....rethink is needed...

The big tank looks absolutely great at the moment...all of the rainbows
shoal together irrespective of the differences in species... :-)

One LFS is a bit of a rainbow nut and is trying to get in some decent
Parkinson rainbows...he isn't happy with the ones he has right now - not
because of health but because he does not believe that they are good
specimens...he is working on it and thinks I should get some once he is
sure of the quality breed wise....he probably wants the fry sold back to
him....

around here out creeks are full of them.
and blue eyes and damned gambusia!
Rainbows are good long lived fish and they loves their bloodworms

Just tested the water. My Ph is actually closer to 7.4-7.6 So not quite
as high as 8.

Thanks for all your suggestions so far. I was actually leaning more
towards a community tank. What would you guys sugguest for that?
